Prayer Before Study by St. Thomas Aquinas
Lord, true source of light and wisdom, give me a keen sense of understanding, a retentive memory and the capacity to grasp things correctly. Grant me the grace to be accurate in my expositions and the skill to express myself with thoroughness and clarity. Be with me at the start of my work, guide its progress and bring it to completion. Grant this through Christ our Lord, amen.
Prayer for Students & Teachers
Lord God, your Spirit of wisdom fills the earth and teaches us your ways. Look upon us students. Let us enjoy our learning and take delight in new discoveries. Help us to persevere in our studies and give us the desire to learn things well. Look upon our teachers. Let them strive to share their knowledge with gentle patience and endeavor always to bring the truth to eager minds. Grant that they may follow Jesus Christ, the way, the truth, and the life, for ever and ever. Amen.
Prayer of St. Therese
Omy God! I offer Thee all my actions of this day for the intentions and for the glory of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I desire to sanctify every beat of my heart, my every thought, my simplest works, by uniting them to Its infinite merits; and I wish to make reparation for my sins by casting them into the furnace of Its Merciful Love. O my God! I ask of Thee for myself and for those whom I hold dear, the grace to fulfill perfectly Thy Holy Will, to accept for love of Thee the joys and sorrows of this passing life, so that we may one day be united together in heaven for all Eternity. Amen.
The Word of God from the Book of Sirach (6:32-37)
I f you wish, you can be taught; if you apply yourself, you will be shrewd. If you are willing to listen, you will learn; if you give heed, you will be wise. Frequent the company of the elders; whoever is wise, stay close to him. Be eager to hear every godly discourse; let no wise saying escape you. If you see a man of prudence, seek him out; let your feet wear away his doorstep! Reflect on the precepts of the LORD, let his commandments be your constant meditation; Then he will enlighten your mind, and the wisdom you desire he will grant.
The Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word incarnate, despise not my petitions, but, in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.
